No, the extraction process is different from espresso so the coffee will be a rich dark brown with no crema.

The type of coffee is dependent on your own taste, although care should be taken to ensure the type of grind is suitable for the machine you will be using.   For drip coffee machines use a coarse ground coffee blend. Most coffee is labeled to ensure you are able to select the correct type of coffee.

What is filter coffee?

Filter or drip coffee is made by hot water passing through ground coffee. Hot water is filtered solely under the pull of gravity. When water comes into contact with ground coffee, the flavours, colour and aroma from the coffee are extracted and dissolved in the water. This is known as extraction. It is important to use ground coffee suitable for filter machines, and not espresso coffee, because it has been specially prepared for the purpose. There are many excellent brands to choose from, which are available from your local coffee specialist or supermarket.

How do I descale my DCF6212TTC or DCF6214T drip Coffee Maker?

The cleaning light is blinking and the unit needs to be descaled: Pour 3.5 ounces of descaling solution into the carafe and fill with water to the 4 cup level. Pour this mixture into the unit's water tank. Place the carafe in the unit and push the &ldquo;clean button ". The program for descaling will start. The mixture will clean inside and drip back in to the carafe. When this stops, empty out the carafe and fill with clean fresh water. Pour the water into the tank and press the clean button. Place the carafe back in the unit. This will start the rinsing cycle and you will need to repeat these steps 3 times using the fresh water BEFORE brewing coffee. At the end of the third rinse, push the on/off button twice in order to clear the clean alarm

Cups of coffee are based on 5 fl oz per coffee. A 10 cup carafe when filled to the 10 cup level will hold approximately 50 fl oz, the 12 cup carafe will hold approximately 60 fl oz, and the 14 cup carafe will hold approximately 70 fl oz.

Why is my On/Off switch flashing on my DC514T coffee maker?

If the DC514T on/Off button is flashing it means the unit requires to be descaled. To descale, please follow these steps: 1. Pour 4 cups of water into the carafe. 2. Pour teh descaler solution in 3. Place the carafe on the warming plate. 4. Press the ON/AUTO/OFF button and let the equivalent of one cup run through, then switch off the machine. 5. Let the solution work for 15 minutes, then repeat steps 4 and 5. 6. Switch the coffee maker back on and run the solution through until the tank is completely emptied. 7. Rinse by operating the machine with water only for at least three cycles (3 full tanks of water). 8. Once the descaling operation is finished, press the SET TIMER and SET CLOCK buttons at the same time to stop the ON/AUTO/OFF light from flashing We reccomend you use our tested De'Longhi descaler to clean the machine you can find here

Do I need to descaling my unit if I use Reverse Osmosis Filtered Water?

Yes, you still need to regularly descale your unit. If you use water filtered with a reverse osmosis system, we recommend testing the hardness of your water and adjusting the "Water hardness setting" on your coffee machine accordingly. You can find detailed instructions on how to set the water hardness level in your product instruction manual.
