This October we're paying homage to our nations favourite bean-based beverage, with a month long appreciation of all things coffee. Join us on a sensory journey exploring sight, smell and taste.

Masterclass Events take place throughout the month, with coffee sampling throughout Auckland. Check out the events calendar for details.

We're also introducing the Italian tradition of Caffe' Sospeso {Suspended Coffee} at a cafe' near you - you could receive a free coffee on us next time you visit your favourite cafe' in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

    Caffè Sospeso

    An Italian tradition - A caffe' sospeso is a cup of coffee paid for in advance as an anonymous act of kindness. The tradition began in the working-class cafe's of Naples, where someone who had experienced good luck would order a sospeso, paying the price of two coffees but receiving and consuming only one.

    The suspended coffee would then be served to another customer free of charge. You could receive a free coffee on us next time you visit your favourite cafe' in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

Yves André

OF INNOVACTION

Expert perfumer, Yves Andre immigrated to New Zealand in 1990 after growing up in New Caledonia. Yves set up his own perfumery business, Innovaction Limited, shortly after and over 20 years has developed and refined unique, innovative perfume design tools that are based on emotions, archetypes and colour that have been used to create perfumes for major cosmetics companies as well as fashion designers and eco-friendly companies.

With these powerful tools Yves is now designing perfumes for customers around the world. Yves is passionate about the power of scent and remains part of an international group of perfumers that meet in France regularly to share information on the power of scent. Yves believes that aromatic molecules are extraordinarily powerful: "Scent can exponentially increase the feeling, the mood and the confidence of people. Fantastique n'est-ce pas?"

Join us for a sensory experience to discover the power of fragrance. De'Longhi is offering you the chance to discover and create your very own personal scent. Held at De'Longhi's showroom, the 1.5hr workshop will be a sensory journey, helping you to uncover your ultimate fragrance. Each guest will walk away with a personalised fragrance (5ml) of their own to take home.

Antonio Crisci

OF NON-SOLO PIZZA/PODERI CRISCI

Antonio Crisci learnt to cook with his grandmother in his mother-s kitchen in Napoli and was 19 when he opened his first restaurant in Italy. He is a renowned Auckland restaurateur opening hugely successful Toto restaurant, Il Forno Cafe' in Ponsonby, modern Italian bistro NSP and his latest venture and passion Poderi Crisci . Antonio loves being an owner/operator of his restaurants; he gives constant attention to detail and has the possibility to "entirely express my vision of food being an integral part of life".

Antonio Crisci will be hosting a masterclass perfect for those with a keen interest in food and coffee. Which food matches well with your coffee? How can coffee be used in your recipes? Antonio will guide you to answers that will please your taste buds. Taste Antonio's creations and watch him in action, while discovering tips that will help you succeed in the kitchen. You'll also walk away with Antonio's recipes so you can recreate at home.

James Millar

OF ORLEANS AND RACKET

James first started working in bars part time to pay his way through university back in 2009. He is now a full time bartender managing the Orleans and Racket venues within the Britomart Hospitality Group. Along the way, James has had the opportunity to work with some of the best names in the industry including Nick Harrison, Cam Timmins, James Goggin and Barney Toy. He has learnt a lot about people and the craft over the last few years and has become incredibly passionate this industry. He loves making and conceptualising cocktails and has competed at both the local and national level.

The popularity of Espresso Martinis has created an appetite for more coffee based cocktails. James Millar has developed three coffee inspired cocktails exclusively for the month of October and will be teaching you how to make these at home. Learn the tricks of the bar trade with the master himself whilst putting his three cocktail creations to the taste test.

Giovanni Infantino

DE'LONGHI'S RESIDENT BARISTA

De'Longhi's resident barista Giovanni Infantino was raised in Sicily, where locals pride themselves on eating and drinking well. Espresso is part of the Italian culture and it is something that Giovanni has become passionate about.

Giovanni grew up watching his grandfather make coffee for his customers at his Delicatessen in Caltanisetta and he worked in a bar as a barista during his teen years becoming a passionate coffee purveyor. Giovanni has been living in New Zealand for three years and enjoys sharing his passion for quality Italian coffee with locals.

Learn the art of making a perfect coffee from bean to cup, crafting a rich crema and silky milk froth, with the skills of a barista or at the touch of a button. Giovanni will share his five top tips for the perfect coffee in an intimate session at the De'Longhi Group Showroom.

Ewan Kim

OF THE APOTHECARY EATERY

Since moving to New Zealand in 2007, Ewan Kim was so taken by New Zealand cafe' culture that the Korean native turned his passion for coffee into a career. Currently the head barista at The Apothecary Eatery in Howick, Ewan is now becoming well-known in coffee circles for his flair for latte art.

In May this year, the talented barista competed in the NZ Latte Art Championship and was the sensory judge at the Auckland Regional Culinary Fare. Ewan was also the trainer responsible for a group of five hospitality students all winning titles at the Auckland Regional Culinary Fare, including one student who went on to winning the competition this year. Recently, the latte art expert helped launch the Apothecary Barista School where he is both co-director and head trainer.
