  1. Cream the softened butter and sugar in a mixer.
  2. Add the eggs (at room temperature) one at a time with the salt and beat for about 5 minutes to get a dough without clumps. Sift the flour (except for 30 grams to be kept aside), the baking powder and vanillin. Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk mixture.
  3. Mix the ingredients well then divide them into two equal parts. Add the remaining flour to one part and the sifted cocoa to the other.
  4. Remove the paddle from the bowl.
  5. Butter and flour the bowl and arrange first the light-coloured batter in three separate parts, then the dark-coloured batter, filling in the empty spaces between the light-coloured batter.
  6. To get the marbled effect, swirl a fork through the two coloured batters. Close the lid, select the CAKE program, set power level 2, set 50 minutes and press the program start/stop button.
  7. Check doneness using a toothpick. Push the toothpick deep into the centre of the cake and if there is no residue on the toothpick the cake is done.
