  • 4 espresso coffees
  • 4 teaspoons of sugar
  • 12 ice cubes
  • Optional lime or lemon wedge

Mazagran – a cold, sweetened coffee that originated in Algeria around 1840 – has been described as the original iced coffee. Prepared with coffee syrup and cold water, it provided the humble beginnings of the iced coffee that we know and love today.

Nowadays iced coffee is so fashionable that you can buy it all over the world, regardless of climate.  Used our iced coffee recipe below to make your own!

  • Crush two cups of ice cubes with a pestle and mortar, or crush using a high speed blender. Place your flavored espresso capsule into the slot of a Dolce Gusto coffee machine and the temperature setting will brew your chilled coffee (the control panel will guide you to the correct temperature).
  • Once it’s ready, the light will flash and within seconds your iced coffee is served.
  • Add coffee syrup or granulated brown sugar to taste.
  • Optional: garnish with a slice of citrus fruit or add single cream.
