  • For Fried Chicken:
  • All-purpose flour: 1.5 cups
  • Salt: 1 tsp
  • Garlic powder: 1 tsp
  • Pepper: 3/4 tsp
  • Buttermilk: 3/4 cup
  • Large egg: 1
  • Chicken strips or tenders: 1 lb
  • Vegetable oil: 1/2 cup
  • For Waffles:
  • All purpose flour: 1.5 cups
  • Baking Powder: 1 1/4 tsp
  • Salt: 1/2 tsp
  • Buttermilk: 1.5 cups
  • Large egg: 1
  • Butter, melted: 1/4 cup (1/2 stick)
  • Sugar: 2 tbsp
  • Honey: 1/3 cup
  • Hot Sauce: 2 tsp

  1. To make the chicken, combine the flour, salt, garlic powder, and pepper and then spread on a sheet of wax paper. Whisk together the buttermilk and egg in a shallow dish or pie plate. Dip the chicken tenders, one piece at a time, in the flour mixture, then in the buttermilk mixture and back into the flour mixture, shaking off the excess flour.
  2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken, in batches, if necessary, and cook, turning, until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through, about 8 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack.
  3. To make the waffles, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Stir in the buttermilk, egg, butter, and sugar until just combined.
  4. Lightly spray the upper and lower waffle plates with nonstick spray. Set the function dials to the waffle setting and preheat the waffle plates.
  5. Pour the batter into the lower waffle plate, spreading the batter to the edges with a heatproof rubber spatula. Close the lid and cook until the waffles are browned and crisp, 3 – 5 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, place the honey and hot sauce in a small microwavable bowl. Microwave on Medium until warmed, about 10 seconds.
  7. Transfer the waffles to a plate. Top with the chicken and drizzle with the honey mixture.
