What is a manual espresso machine?

The manual coffee machine, as the name suggests, is a machine where the process of making coffee is controlled by the user. The portafilter is filled with ground coffee, tamped firmly, clamped into the group head, and brewed with pressure around 9 bar. The espresso brewing method allows the full aroma of the coffee beans to be extracted and golden crema to develop on the espresso.

Is a manual coffee maker better than a fully automatic coffee maker?

Is a manual coffee maker better than a fully automatic coffee maker?

Both machines can produce delicious coffee, but the difference lies in the user's personal preference for preparation. With a manual machine, the preparation is done by the user, replicating the professional barista experience. With fully automatic machines, the final drink is brewed automatically at the touch of a button.

What should you look for when buying a manual coffee maker?

De'Longhi range includes models with various features and price points. Discover the full range and choose the one that best suits your preferences. Things to consider include materials and design, brewing pressure, and the milk frothing system.

Finish & Design

The design of our Manual coffee machines, is inspired by the commercial coffee machines you can find in your favourite coffee shop. They are finished in either plastic or metal. Some are painted to suit the interior design of your kitchen. If space is limited, the range also includes more compact appliances.

Type of coffee

With De'Longhi manual coffee machines you can select models that just deliver rich and creamy espresso, or discover more advanced models, such as La Specialista range, that offer a wider variety of coffee and milk-based drinks, thanks to ColdBrew Technology and the De'Longhi automatic milk preparation system.

Pressure

Pressure is one of the key elements that determines a good quality espresso extraction. Other elements working in unison will produce a perfect result: grind size, tamping pressure, water temperature, and the dose of ground coffee.

Milk texturing system

Manual coffee machines are equipped with a steam wand to texture the milk. Premium manual coffee machines feature a powerful steam wand, perfect for creating silky microfoam, used to create latte art. Some models feature the LatteCrema system: an automatic texturing system that combines steam, air, and milk in an ideal ratio, to create a perfect microfoam that is delivered directly from the carafe to the cup.

Which manual coffee maker is suitable for beginners?

Which manual coffee maker is suitable for beginners?

Beginners can begin coffee-making with a manual coffee machine with simpler features. In this respect, the Dedica range is a good proposition. If you have more experience in making espresso, you can opt for a machine with a more advanced portafilter, precise settings, and more adjustable functions, such as one of the "La Specialista" range.
