IFD Care Oil Manuals/ FAQs/ Support

  • Will an oil filled radiator suit my needs?

Oil filled radiators provide a most efficient and cost effective electrical heating solution for longer term use. They are ideal for larger areas such as living rooms or any area needing constant temperature and are set on castors for portability.

They operate by heating oil sealed within the unit, this heat transfers to the outer metal surfaces to heat the surrounding air. The heated air rises to be replaced by cooler air leading to a slow warm air circulation in what is known as a convection cycle. This gives an even, comfortable temperature around the room.

For oil filled radiators immediate heat does not feature but once temperature is reached the oil retains the heat and is powered down. An internal thermal control only calls for power after the oil temperature eventually drops. This provides an efficient, steady, silent operation, ideal for longer term use. Many models have a timer and ECO functions for increased user control.

Once switched off the radiator’s retained heat releases slowly to give a gradual temperature reduction to the room.

For more information please see our heating guide.

  • Where can I purchase spares and accessories for my De’Longhi product?

Spares and accessories for De’Longhi products, including many older products, are available from De’Longhi Spares via their website at http://www.4delonghi.co.uk/. Alternatively they can be contacted by calling 0844 557 6438.

In either case please have your model number ready when ordering, which typically can be identified on the underside of the unit.

  • What type of oil is used in your oil filled radiators?

The oil filled radiators are filled with diathermic heat transfer fluid. This will not need replacing within the product lifetime.

  • How can I filter the oil for re-use?

The length of time oil can be used can be extended by filtering it through an oil filter paper, stronger versions of kitchen towel, or a fine sieve. Food particles left in the oil and reheated several times will cause the oil to deteriorate more quickly. Make sure the oil has completely cooled for several hours before attempting to do this.

The amount of times oil can be used before discarding will vary according to the type of oil and the food cooked within it. For example, good quality corn or groundnut oil can be used up to 8-10 times, whereas rapeseed oil should only be used 3-4 times. If strong aromatic food is fried bear in mind that this can affect the flavour of other foods cooked in the same oil.

  • Do I need to refill an oil heater or change the oil?

The oil in our oil filled radiators is there for the life of the product. There is no need to change the oil or refill it.

  • Why is corn oil recommended for fryers?

Other oils may cause foaming and unpleasant smells at higher temperatures. Corn oil will give up to 8-10 uses whereas other oils such as rapeseed should be changed after 3-4 fries. Olive oil and low fat oils should never be used for frying.

  • The oil is spilling over the top of my fryer. What can I do?

There are several reasons this can happen.

    • Check the food is as dry as possible before placing it into the fryer. Mop up excess water from washing or pre-boiled food with kitchen towel or a clean tea towel.
    • Low fat oils have high water content and are not suitable for deep fryers as they can cause excessive foaming.
    • Check the level does not exceed the maximum level indicated and that you are not overfilling the unit.
    • Change the oil regularly. The frequency required will depend on the type of oil.
  • Can I purchase a Rapido oil filled heater?

The Rapido heater has been replaced by the Dragon 4 range and is no longer available. Please see our website for more information on the Dragon range.

  • What are the power settings on my Dragon oil filled radiator?

The heating power settings on the 2.5KW Dragon 4 oil filled radiator are as follows:

    Min - 1100W

    Mid - 1400W

    Max - 2500W

The heating power settings on the 2KW Dragon 4 oil filled radiator are as follows:

    Min - 900W

    Mid - 1100W
